FACTS
Stanton County has 430 square miles. We provide county-wide
law enforcement coverage all 6500+ residents. We contract with
the City of Stanton. Stanton County borders the City of Norfolk.
Woodland Park is a subdivision of Norfolk which is in Stanton
County. The population of Woodland Park would make it a Second
Class City (1993 census = 3300 population) in which we provide
law enforcement. Stanton County also includes the Village of
Pilger. Our dispatch center is located in Norfolk.
We provide 24 hour coverage with 7 full-time law enforcement
officers. We have six part-time officers who work the equivalent
of about 80-100 hours a month total. The deputies are currently
working 4 ten hour shift with three days off per week.
A starting deputy is on probation for the first six months of employment. After the six months probation there is a $100.00
per month increase with current salary approximately $30,000 per year. Deputies are paid $40 uniform
allowance and $45 for cell phone each month. Benefits include
Full-Family Health and life insurance, overtime pay, 12 paid
holidays, 80 hours of paid vacation, and a fully-equipped take-home
patrol unit. All units are equipped with up-to-date equipment.
We purchase a least one or two new patrol units each year.
Stanton County Sheriff's Office handles all calls within the
county. There are six highways within Stanton County that we
aggressively enforce traffic laws. According to the UCR (Uniform
Crime Reports) the Stanton County Sheriff's Office makes more
arrest per capita than most every county law enforcement agency
in the state and almost all departments in whole. With Stanton
County bordering the City of Norfolk and having major highways,
the deputies receive great opportunities to work a variety of
cases.
